RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Aug. 19 (AP)—The Government has disqualified 195 of the 288 Awami League members elected to the 310‐scat East Pakistani Provincial Assembly.
It said today those disqualified would face criminal charges. The remaining 94 Awami league members will be allowed to hold office as Individuals but not under the party label.
The Government's action followed a ban of 79 of the 167 members of the Awami League elected to the National Assembly in December. The assembly never met as the league pressed for autonomy for East Pakistan and West Pakistani troops began a military crackdown March 23 against what it termed a secessionist movement in the province.
