KARACHI, Pakistan, Aug. 25 —Sixty persons have died in widespread flooding in East Pakistan, the Government announced today.
Gen. Tikka Khan, governor and martial law administrator of East Pakistan, visited some of the affected areas today. He was accompanied by the relief commissioner, the director of health services and a medical team equipped with medicines and vaccines.
After the visit, the general said there would be no short age of funds for relief operations, which already are under way in the affected areas.
According to reports reaching Dacca, the East Pakistani capital, nine major rivers have risen above the danger mark. Vast tracts of land have been flooded, damaging rice and jute crops and thousands of homes, and submerging roads. Thousands of persons have been evacuated.
