KARACHI, Pakistan, Sept. 24— —Rumors circulated here to day that Sheik Mujibur Rahman, the Bengali leader now on trial for treason, might soon be released as part of a political accommodation in East Pakistan.
Sheik Mujib was arrested in March by troops in Dacca when the army moved to suppress the Bengali independence movement.
Newspapers reported today that Sheik Mujib's wife called on the new civilian Governor of East Pakistan Tuesday.
In response to the rumors regarding Sheik Mujib, politicians who have supported the military Government have announced their opposition to freeing the Bengali leader. Nurul Amin, a Bengali politician who has consistently supported the army's position in East Pakistan, said yesterday that the Government would be “confronted with another crisis” if it released Sheik Mujib.
