SRINAGAR, Kashmir, Oct. 24 —About 35 Pakistani and 8 Indian soldiers have been reported killed in a series of border clashes in the Uri sector, 64 miles west of here, in the last ten days, Indian official sources said today.
One forward mountain post of the Pakistan Army was said to have been destroyed in an exchange of fire between the two sides.
The sources said the firing was begun by the Pakistanis immediately after their heavy military build‐up close to the 500‐mile border with Kashmir and was continued intermittently for eight days.
Minor border clashes were also reported from several sectors in Jammu Province.
Chief Minister G. M. Sadiq yesterday ordered severe action against “antinational” elements, rumor‐mongers and people in the black market. He asked ruling Congress party men to keep close watch on them.
Kashmiris were asked to help maintain internal peace and protect vital installations—such as power houses, water reservoirs, roads, bridges and communication lines—against Pakistani saboteurs.
