JAMMU, Kashmir, Dec. 9 (Reuters) — Indian military sources said here today that fighting continued for the fourth day in the embattled Chhamb sector of Kashmir with Indian forces still holding the western side of the Tawi River despite heavy Pakistani pressure.
The river flows through Indian‐held territory just a few miles from the Kashmir ceasefire line.
A senior military spokesman said Indian planes had flown a record number of missions in support of ground troops this morning with considerable success.
The air attacks knocked out 16 enemy tanks, he said, bringing the total number put out of action in this area to 62.
Up to 70,000 men are estimated to have been involved in the fighting which has raged in the area since Monday.
