PEKING, Dec. 13 (Reuters)—Pakistani diplomats continued their contacts with Chinese officials today over the Indian-Pakistani war, Pakistani sources reported.
Diplomats believe China is watching the situation with great concern and care.
Although Hsinhua, the official press agency continued attacks on India and the Soviet Union, the conflict was not reported on the front pages of Chinese newspapers today. The Communist party paper, Jenminh Jih Pao, carried only a foreign newspaper report on the situation on an inside page.
But while roundly attacking India here and at the United Nations, China is being extremely careful about committing herself to giving more than the aid Pakistan is already getting.
China has been building bridges toward her neighbors since the end of the Cultural Revolution in 1969 and the emergence of an Indian‐ and Soviet‐backed independent state of Bangla Desh would be a most unwelcome development in the terms of Chinese diplomacy.
