WASHINGTON, March 27--The State Department said today its reports from Dacca indicated that "all is quite" in the city.
This information was received in Washington from the United States Consulate General in Dacca at about 7 A.M. today. The report said that martial law was in effect in Dacca and presumably elsewhere in East Pakistan and that the military forces controlled all communications.
The consulate reported that so far as was known United States citizens in the Dacca area were safe. There are 1100 Americans in East Pakistan, more than 650 of whom are in or around Dacca. This includes 200 United States Government officials and their families. There were no reports on the situation of apparently 50 Americans in Chittagong or on those elsewhere in East Pakistan, most of whom are missionaries.
The State Department said that "no evacuation of Americans in East Pakistan is contemplated at this time.
