Sir Alec Douglas-Home, the Foreign Secretary, will make a statement on Pakistan to the House of Commons on Monday. This is likely to give details of the evacuation of British subjects, but not deal with the internal situation.
The British Government are determined to avoid any action which could justify the already frequent accusations that they are taking sides.
Yesterday an R.A.F. transport aircraft evacuated 90 British subjects from Dacca to Singapore. Another is expected to take out 90 today and a third may do the same tomorrow.
New York, April 2 —U Thant, the Secretary-General, has authorized the evacuation of all United Nations personnel and their dependants from East Pakistan, a spokesman said. Fifty specialists and four dependants are involved.—Reuter.
Our Gene. Correspondent writes The international committee of the Red Cross has failed to obtain permission for its delegates to go to Dacca with a planeload of medical and relief supplies for victims of the civil war.
