Background: The East Pakistan "Liberation Forces" have named Chuadanga as the provisional capital of East Pakistan. The man recognised as head of the breakaway forces is Dr. Asabul Huq Joardar, who said on Monday (5 April) fighting would continue in East Pakistan until the birth of a new nation.

Chuadanga, north of Jessore, is about 125 miles (200 kms) northeast of Calcutta and about 15 miles (24 kms) from the Indian order. Many people have left the town but it has yet to see any fighting, although Pakistan Air Force aircraft are reported to have dropped a few bombs and strafed the area last Saturday.

SYNOPSIS: A provisional government of the rebel province of Bangladesh, with its capital at the small city of Chuadanga near the Indian border, is now emerging as fighting rags in East Pakistan.

Here the Liberation Army has its headquarters, under its self-styled chief adviser Dr. Asabul Huq Joardar, who because of his connection with the army is also looking after the civil affairs of the secessionists at the moment.

The town of Chuadanga shows some damage from aerial strafing and bombing by the Pakistan sir force, but so far has seen no fighting on the ground. Reporters across the Indian border have reported that the liberation movement has already sent representatives to London and Washington in an attempt to win recognition, but head of the liberation forces Dr. Huq said he did not want to declare a provisional Government before clearing more areas of West Pakistan troops, and securing some ports and airports. Fifty year-old Awami League member Dr. Huq, who wears two pistols belted over civilian clothes, has said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is still very much alive, and that he received a message from him on the 5th. of April. He says the fight now on in East Pakistan will continue until every West Pakistan soldier in the province has been eliminated.
