Background: A growing flood of refugees from East Pakistan is pouring across the border into India. Visnews cameraman Prem Prakash found scores of them cramming into boats to get across the Ichamati river into India to escape fighting in the civil war.

On the Pakistani side, in Khulna district, black marketeers are making a killing by illegally changing money for the fleeing refugees. A few Awami League volunteers patrol the area.

Indian border guards policing the river are making no apparent attempt to deter the Pakistani refugees from crossing the river.
