Reception centres have been established at check points in East Pakistan to receive the returning refugees and offer medical assistance. SYNOPSIS: Large numbers of Pakistani refugees are reportedly returning from India. The Pakistani government stated that it has granted amnesty to its citizens that fled to West Bengal. This is official government film of the returnees.
Pakistan has set up reception centres at various check points on its borders. As the Pakistanis return from India they are offered first aid, food, and shelter. It is estimated that some one-hundred thousand Pakistanis have returned to their homes. Their exodus from India follows Monsoon rains that have caused dismal conditions in the emergency camps established for them, the expulsion of foreign relief workers by Indian officials, and the halt to the airlift by foreign-supplied aircraft of Pakistanis within India's borders.
Arrivals in the Indian camps of East Pakistani refugees has recently diminished. But there still are about seven million Pakistani refugees in India. United Nations representatives have arrived in East Pakistan to aid the returning refugees.
