Background: Nearly six million refugees have crossed into India from East Pakistan, bringing few possessions and much potential chaos. Many are still without shelter and clothing, but some refugee camps have achieved a degree of order. In the Sahara refugee camp, 13 miles north-east of Calcutta, refugees have set up food stalls, and barbers are back in business. And the end of the cholera fear has provided impetus for yet more East Bengalis to cross the border into India. Indian border officials expect another two million refugees.
At the same time President Yahya Khan of Pakistan has said East Pakistan refugees would be given full protection if they return home. And Pakistan has released official film of refugees returning from India, part of which is included in this round-up of the situation. The complete official film was serviced by Visnews today under the title "Official film of refugees returning from India to Pakistan"--Production Number 6942/71.
