Background: Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, leader of the biggest political party in West Pakistan yesterday (Sunday, March the 14th), urged Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of East Pakistan, to come to terms with him to end the country's constitutional deadlock. Speaking at a public meeting in Karachi, Mr Bhutto strongly advocated a united Pakistan.
Sheikh Mujib is the leader of the Awami League which won a landslide victory in the East Pakistan elections in December. He and Mr Bhutto have so far failed to agree on constitutional issues. Sheikh Mujib has demanded virtual autonomy for East Pakistan.
Mr Bhutto stressed at Sunday's meeting that a solution would come only with agreement of the major parties.
