Background: Two men who were members of the banned Awami League, the major political group in East Pakistan before the civil war, were among nine people sworn in as members of the Eastern wing's new cabinet or Council of Ministers. The ceremony took place in Dacca last Friday and was performed by East Pakistan's civilian Governor, Doctor Malik. A Visnews cameraman was allowed to film the swearing in ceremony. The Pakistan Government said that the formation of the Cabinet was another step towards full normalisation in the Eastern wing.
SYNOPSIS: East Pakistan's civilian Governor, Dr. Malik has officiated at a swearing in ceremony for nine members of the region's new cabinet or Council of Ministers. Among the men sworn in were two former members of the Awami League, the major political party of the Eastern wing which was banned after the civil war. Each member took at oath to act with honesty and always in the interest of solidarity, integrity and for the prosperity of Pakistan.
The two former Awami League members had both won seats in last December's elections when the League had a sweeping victory.
General Niazi, on the left and Major General Rao Ali, two men connected with the Martial Law Administration in East Pakistan were present at the ceremony.
