Background: Students in West Bengal went on strike at the weekend as a wave of sympathy swept India for East Pakistanis in their reported struggle against Army rule. At the frontier town of Petrapole, hundreds of chanting students marched to the border.
Indian security forces moved among the demonstrators and there was no violence. Apart from the protest, cameramen Prem Prakash and Durgadas Chatterji found the border quiet, despite reports of bloody clashes in the nearby Pakistani town of Jessore and of refugees crossing into West Bengal.
