Delhi. Oct 1 - President Podgorny, of the Soviet Union, warned India and Pakistan tonight against going to war over East Bengal.

He said “We consider that the further sliding towards a military conflict must be prevented and that the tension should be removed by means of an equitable political settlement with due account lor the legitimate rights and interests of the peoples in that region.”

Mr Podgomy, in Delhi for an overnight stop on his way to Hanoi, was speaking at a banquet given in his honour by President Giri of Indra. - AP
