A group of 30 scholars —all experts on East Pakistan—have addressed an appeal to Pakistan's President for a truce and restoration of “legitimate and responsive government,” in the East.
The signers, according to Dr. Robert Dorfman of Harvard, are either known to him or to others in the group as having been “actively engaged in trying to help Pakistan over the last 10 or 15 years.”
The text of the letter, which was sent Saturday to President Agha Mohammad Yahya Khan and to the Pakistani ambassador in Washington, also appeared as an advertisement in The Washington Post yesterday.
The signers also include Barbara Ward, Dr. Jerome B. Wiesner of the Massachusetts. Institute of Technology and Dr. Edward S. Mason of Harvard.
