UNITED NATIONS, N.Y., Dec. 14—The chief spokesman for the Bengali secessionists at the United Nations said tonight that he had asked the acting president of the secessionist regime to give assurances to the Red Cross that the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners will be respected in Dacca.
Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, who heads an 18‐member group here, said he acted at the request of authorities of the international Committee of the Red Cross. He said he was informed by them that the provincial authorities of President Agha Mohammad Yahya Khan's Government in Dacca, the East Pakistani capital, had resigned and asked for Red Cross protection.
Mr. Chowdhury, who was the highest ranking judge in East Pakistan before he broke with the Government and joined the secessionist cause, said he had also asked Bangla Dash authorities to safeguard the wellbeing of some United Nations staff members in Dacca.
